Each year Pantone chooses a color of the year. At first glance, this might seem trivial, but color drives a lot of what we do. In fact, there’s a whole psychology behind colors. They can calm you, they make you feel confident, and they can even support the regulation of blood pressure regulation.

In business, art, decore and beyond great care is taken when choosing the color for just about everything we develop or come in contact with – business logos, clothing trends, home decor, and product packaging, right down to the color schemes used in apps and software.

So, what is the Pantone Color of 2020 and how exactly do they choose it?

Classic Blue, was crowned the Pantone Color of the Year for 2020, described by these trendsetters as “reminiscent of the sky at dusk”. Contrary to what you may see when you look at the simple, elegant hue, Classic Blue carries a beautiful, deeper meaning.  Beyond the peace and calming we’ve come to associate with blue, Pantone shares their thoughts behind the color:

“As technology continues to race ahead of the human ability to process it all, it is easy to understand why we gravitate to colors that are honest and offer the promise of protection. Non-aggressive and easily relatable, the trusted PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue lends itself to relaxed interaction. Associated with the return of another day, this universal favorite is comfortably embraced.”

Choosing the Color of the Year is more than simply picking a pretty hue; a panel of experts meets annually to deliberate over the color. They look at current trends throughout fashion, art, lifestyle choices, socioeconomic factors, and of course, the people themselves. After all, real style lives in the city streets across the globe.
